Miss Illinois Juneteenth 2023
Miss Kyla Gerhardt
Kyla Gerhardt is an 18-year-old student at Granite City High School. She is the daughter of April Gerhardt.
Kyla is a member of Faith United Baptist Church in O’Fallon Illinois under Senior Pastor Willie D. Brown. She is currently a member of her high school’s (Track & Field, Cross Country, Dance, Thespian, and Varsity Club). She is also an honor roll student and does various community services through song. She is also a six-year active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority’s Rhoer club, where she served in various positions and in 2020 was crowned Miss Rhoer for the Central Region. Kyla is a three-year member of the Sheldon All Star Choir led by Mrs. Maria Ellis. She was a 2021 Alton Branch NCNW Debutante and is a member of the East St. Louis Youth NAACP counsel. Kyla’s biggest accomplishment was in March of this year she was one of fifteen chosen out of hundreds of teens to perform on the St. Louis Fox stage in the St. Louis Fox Teen Talent competition. Kyla’s hobbies include singing, dancing, watching Tic Toks, and listening to music. She plans to attend SIUE in the Fall of 2023 and major in musical therapy and early childhood education. Her career goals include being a musical therapist who works with disabled youth.

Here at Illinois Juneteenth Committee| Miss Illinois Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant Program, we see the value in supporting youth across IL. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 2020, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our Nonprofit Organization upon: support, empowerment and progress.
Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Miss illinois juneteenth scholarship pageant program emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support Excellence in Education and a beacon of Equity and Diversity. We hear our youth's desire for action and wish to speak louder and BE THAT CHANGE they wish to see!
